Delhi Jal Board Water Bill Waiver 2025 – 100% Surcharge Relief on Domestic Bills till January 31, 2026

The Delhi Government has launched a major relief initiative for residents by waiving 100% of late payment surcharges on domestic water bills until January 31, 2026. This Diwali special scheme, covering over ₹11,000 crore in surcharges, aims to help consumers clear their dues and prevent disconnections. From February 1 to March 31, 2026, a 70% waiver will be available. To benefit from the scheme, consumers must pay the full principal amount, either in one go or through installments. The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has also upgraded its billing system and regional offices to ensure smoother operations and easier consumer access.

Currently, ₹87,589 crore in water bills remain outstanding, with ₹80,463 crore (over 91%) attributed to late payment surcharges.

1. Understand the surcharge waiver

  • Delhi government has given in-principle approval to waive late-payment surcharge (LPSC) for domestic and government water bills. (The Indian Express)
  • The waiver is not yet fully implemented everywhere; it is expected to roll out once the billing software/system is ready. (www.ndtv.com)
  • Under the existing rules, late-payment surcharge is normally 5% of the total bill amount if payment is delayed beyond the due date. (djb.gov.in)

So, after the waiver, your “net amount payable” should not include the 5% surcharge (if you qualify). But the principal (base) bill and other charges (water, sewer, service, etc.) will remain.

2.How to Check DJB Water Bill Due Amount after Waiver?

To check your DJB water bill and the amount payable:

  1. Go to the DJB RMS Portal — “View / Print Bill” section.
  2. Enter your KNO (consumer number) and your registered mobile number to receive an OTP.
  3. After validating OTP, you’ll see:
    • Bill date
    • Current bill amount
    • Net amount payable (this should reflect surcharge waiver if applied)
    • Bill due date
    • Bill image (you can view/download)

The portal explicitly shows “Net Amount Payable (Rs.)” in the bill details.

If surcharge waiver has been applied, your “Net amount payable” should exclude the surcharge component.

3. Download the bill

Once you have accessed the bill via the portal:

  • There is an option to download or print the bill image / copy in PDF or similar format.

Go to the View / Print Bill page of DJB website.

    Download DJB Bill
  • You may also use the “Duplicate Bill / Bill History” feature to download past bills.
  • Some users also use mobile apps like DJB My Bill to view and download bills by entering the KNO.

4. Pay online

You can pay your DJB water bill online via multiple routes:

  • Via the DJB RMS Portal “Pay Online” section — using credit/debit cards, net banking, wallets, UPI.
  • Using BBPS (Bharat Bill Payment System) — DJB is integrated with BBPS for water bill payments.
  • Via NEFT / RTGS — the portal mentions paying via these bank transfer routes.
  • Through third-party apps/platforms (e.g. Freecharge) which support DJB bill payments.
