Punjab CM Scholarship Scheme 2025 for Govt. College Students – Free Education For Those Getting Above 90% Marks
The Punjab state government has introduced the “Chief Minister Scholarship Scheme,” a new initiative aimed at providing affordable and quality education to students in government colleges. The scheme is designed to support academically bright students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, especially those from the general category, while also enhancing the gross enrollment ratio (GER) in higher education.
Under this program, students who score 90% or above will receive completely free education. Various levels of concessions are available under the CM Scholarship Scheme, depending on the marks obtained by the students.
Punjab Chief Minister Scholarship Scheme 2025 – Objectives
The Punjab government has approved the implementation of the Chief Minister Scholarship Scheme to support students of government colleges across the state. The scheme carries an annual financial outlay of Rs. 36.05 crores. The primary objective of the Punjab Mukhyamantri Scholarship Yojana is to provide financial assistance and motivate economically disadvantaged yet meritorious students to pursue higher education. Through this initiative, the government aims to ensure affordable and quality education for underprivileged students.
What is Punjab Chief Minister Scholarship Amount
Punjab Chief Minister Scholarship Scheme will provide a certain concession in terms of percentage of fee charged by universities.
- Students scoring above 60% but below 70% marks will be given a concession equivalent to 70% of the university fee.
- Students scoring between 70% to 80% will be given a concession of 80% in university fee.
- Students scoring between 80% to 90% marks will be given a concession of 90% in university fee.
- Students with above 90% marks will be given a concession of 100% in university fee i.e suc students can avail free education.
Punjab CM Scholarship Scheme Conditions
Punjab Chief Minister Scholarship Scheme benefits cannot be availed with another scholarship. The state govt. stated that this scholarship scheme cannot be availed in tandem with another scholarship. However, in cases where students receive a scholarship from any other scheme of the state or central government but the concession under the new scheme is higher, only the difference amount between the two scholarships will be paid.

Institutions under Punjab CM Scholarship Scheme
CM Scholarship Scheme would be applicable to those students who are the residents of Punjab and are studying in any of the following institutions
– Government polytechnic & engineering colleges
– Maharaja Ranjit Singh University, Bhatinda
– I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar
Need for Punjab Chief Minister Scholarship Scheme
Until now, the number of admissions in these government run colleges have been very low and many seats remain vacant every year. Since the scheme would provide tuition fee waiver, it will definitely attract admissions in these colleges/institutions.
