On June 7, there will be a lottery held for the 25% reserved seats under the Right to Education Act (RTE). However, the state government informed the High Court on Wednesday that, as per the court’s orders, the results will not be immediately disclosed but instead on June 13. The High Court had earlier issued a stay order on May 6, preventing private unaided schools from conducting admissions for the 25% RTE quota meant for underprivileged students. Despite this, admissions had already commenced following a directive from February 9. Subsequently, the ‘Association of Indian Schools’ approached the High Court seeking an interim injunction to lift the stay imposed on May 6.
The association’s plea was contested by public prosecutor Jyoti Chavan, who noted that schools were notified of the High Court’s decision and urged to comply with RTE Act regulations. Despite these notifications, schools proceeded with admissions. Chavan also highlighted that the association had not disclosed the number of schools it represented and confirmed that June 7 is scheduled for the RTE entrance lottery.
