What is APAAR ID Card?

APAAR stands for Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry.
It is a digital student ID created under the One Nation One Student ID initiative by the Government of India, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Think of it as a digital academic bank passbook where all your academic records (certificates, exam results, co-curricular achievements, skill records) are stored securely for lifelong use.

 Registration Process for APAAR ID

Currently, schools/colleges are instructed to help students create APAAR IDs. Here’s how it generally works:

  1. Step 1: Visit Official Portal
  2. Step 2: Login with DigiLocker
    • Click on “Student” → “Register
    • Sign in using your DigiLocker account (Aadhaar required)
  3. Step 3: Fill Details
    • Enter Aadhaar-linked details (name, DOB, gender, address, etc.)
    • Provide academic institution details
  4. Step 4: Generate APAAR ID
    • A unique APAAR number is generated
    • Download your APAAR ID Card from DigiLocker
  5. Step 5: Verification
    • The educational institution verifies and approves your account

 How to Use APAAR ID

  • For Students:
    • Use it as a lifetime academic ID for admission, transfers, exams, scholarships.
    • Access all certificates in DigiLocker anytime.
  • For Teachers/Institutions:
    • Helps track academic progress of students.
    • Simplifies verification during admissions and placements.
  • For Employers:
    • Directly verify candidate’s qualifications through APAAR-linked DigiLocker.
