What is the Laxman Award and Rani Laxmi Bai Award?
The Laxman Award (for male sportspersons) and Rani Laxmi Bai Award (for female sportspersons) are prestigious honors given by the Government of Uttar Pradesh to recognize outstanding achievements in sports across 31 disciplines.
Benefits
Awardees receive:
- A citation
- A bronze statue of either Laxman or Rani Laxmi Bai
- A scroll of honor
- A cash prize of ₹3,11,000/-
Eligibility Criteria
- The applicant must be a bonafide resident of Uttar Pradesh.
- The sportsperson must have represented the state senior team for at least three consecutive years — for example, 2018–19, 2019–20, and 2020–21 (or as applicable for subsequent years).
- The applicant must have participated in the National Games or National Senior Championships, earning medals or notable achievements.
- Participation in recognized international competitions—such as the Olympic Games, World Championship/World Cup (every 4 years), Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, Asian or Commonwealth Championships, SAF Games—will also be considered.
- The applicant must submit an affidavit stating:
- They have never consumed drugs or been found guilty of doping in any event.
- They have not been convicted in any legal case or involved in any sexual harassment case.
- The award can be received only once in a lifetime.
- The Government reserves the right to cancel the award if the recipient’s name is found unsuitable later; the awardee must then return the statue and citation, with no option for appeal.
- Any attempt to influence or plead for selection will lead to disqualification.
- Mere participation in National Senior Championships or National Games does not qualify a player for this award.

Swimming, Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Canoeing & Kayaking, Cycling, Horse Riding, Fencing, Football, Gymnastics, Handball, Hockey, Judo, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Rowing, Shooting, Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Volleyball, Weightlifting/Bodybuilding, Wrestling, Taekwondo, Yachting, Golf, Cricket, Soft Tennis, Karate, and Wushu.
Application Process (Offline)
- Obtain the prescribed application form from the Department of Sports or local sports office.
- Fill out the form carefully, affix a passport-size photograph, and attach all required documents (self-attested if necessary).
- Submit the completed form and documents to the District Sports Officer of your area.
- Collect a receipt or acknowledgment with submission details (date, time, and reference number, if available).
